New Stuff / Plugin idea: merge/modulate one midi stream/clip into another

Here's a plugin request that woudl save me days or even weeks of work in a lot of projects.  (maybe something like this already exists, but I don't know about it)

A "merge" plugin that the user can point to a midi file (or a clip on a track if that's easier) that then takes the notes played in a track that are used to play an arp in a synth (that this same MIDI file was the arp pattern for), and generates the MIDI output that the synth would have "seen" internally.

Meaning, if a track just has long whole or quarter notes (etc) of whatever note values (single or chords, etc), then the plugin would play the arp pattern notes loaded into it in those values.  So I could put the plugin into the clip FX bin, apply MIDI FX on the clip (or track fx bin and apply to track, etc, though I don't usually do it that way because I want some notes unarped).

This is because I want to use, for instance, the Z3TA arp to play it from in the initial inspiration and clip recording stage, but when editing I need access to the individual arped notes to change the note played, or their length, or even position, or even leave some out entirely.    Can't do that until I have the arp pattern as clips on the track...but to do that I have to stick the arp pattern on the track, then I have to manually change the pitch of each note in the pattern to match the notes I played, which is very tedious and has few shortcuts available, and takes a long time.

Does this sound like anything you've already seen in a plugin, or something you'd be interested in making?

If my description is insufficient I can try to come up with a better one.

By it's I/O nature, it would also be an arp plugin, and so it could have the other types of controls such a plugin has, perhaps also including an editing screen for the pattern (but I'd be happy enough to do that part in a SONAR track like I already do, then export to a file I can then load in, as I already do).

(Yes, SONAR 8.5.3 has a per-track arp I can load MIDI files into, but it doesn't (properly, or at all, don't recall which) obey the velocities on the arp patterns loaded, and only uses the static velocity set in it (dunno if that was intended or a bug, but it makes it unable to do what I need).  )

Good idea! There are a couple dozen screws that have to be removed. I added the suggestion under "Things you'll need".

I use large refrigerator magnets a lot when I'm taking something apart. Makes it easy to organize screws in groups... unless they're aluminum  ;)

General Discussion / Viramor Electronics Repair Module Instructions

Greetings!

I couldn't find the Viramor Electronics support email address and did not want to join the Viramor Electronics forum since I don't own a M-Audio keyboard.

I have a suggestion regarding the excellent repair kit step-by-step installation instructions posted here:  https://electronics.viramor.com/m-audioaxiomv2pbmod/

Either in the "things you'll need" list or under the "Disassembly" you can suggest using a 6 or 12 position egg crate container.  The open top and bottom egg crate indentions make great places to keep screws or other hardware.  By placing the hardware in the indentions in the order they are removed from the body you just have to install them in reverse order during assembly.

Another option is to use a piece or cardboard and use the hardware to punch holes in the cardboard.  Install the hardware in the cardboard in order during assembly then reverse the order during assembly.

Either option can be used to keep track of hardware during disassembly and make sure hardware is installed in the same position it was removed from.

Reboot and it showed up in the right place!
Sorry to waste your time. I can't wait to try it.

Thanks again,

Did it appear correctly in the plug-in list the first time you installed it?
*I did not see it that is when I uninstalled. (I could have overlooked it, I was in a hurry)

In other words, did the problem occur after the second time you ran Install.bat?
*Not positive

If you click on the plug-in name (CSWaver) in the Plugin Manager, is the path shown at the bottom (in the Filename box) the correct path to the plug-in?
*It was there before, I think I restarted Cakewalk, and now it is not there.

If the path is correct, then the entry exists in the Windows Registry and Cakewalk recognizes it. If it's not showing up in the menu when you try to add a MidiFX, maybe there's an issue with the Plugin Menu Layout you're using.

* I scanned the registry for CSwaver. It was in 2 places
1->   ........Shell.MuiCache .... Uninstall.bat.FriendlyAppName
2->  .......................................Install.bat
(Both directories were set at the 1st install - Admin - Uninstall did not seem to remove them, But now there are no entries
Install does not seem to add them now. I will try to reboot, and admin - install again.)

Thanks,
MAx

Having trouble. I installed it, then uninstalled it. I moved to another directory and reinstalled it. It shows up in the plugin manager, but does not show up on the add midi FX.  All of your other plugins show up just fine. Does uninstall remove all registry entries, or just the one where it is uninstalled from?
I didn't want to bother you, but I have been trying to get it working for a while.
I really did enjoy listening to your midi arrangements. They are unbelievably good!

Thanks,
Max

New Stuff / Re: Welcome Mr. Fogle! New plug-in in the pipeline

Hi Francois...
It's been "almost finished" for quite a while but getting it to work consistently is problematic. The main issue is the fact that it only gets small buffers (about 2 beats) when Cakewalk is playing the song.
Generating the waveforms based on an arbitrary point in time wasn't too difficult to solve, but maintaining the state of the modifier CCs, and therefore the characteristics of the waveform, when I'm only receiving small, arbitrary chunks of Midi data just doesn't seem possible.
It does work correctly when used in Offline Mode (Process/Apply Effect/MIDI Effects) because Cakewalk supplies all the Midi data for the track at once, but another problem appears if there are multiple layered clips in the track.  ::)
I've also found that the amount of Midi data being sent can overwhelm a piece of outboard Midi equipment if the playback tempo is raised too high, so I need to add some reasonably intelligent code to regulate how much data is being generated based on the current tempo.

I may finish up a few details and release it with a big asterisk saying there are some situations where it may not work as expected, or I may re-write it as a VST-Midi plugin. Just need to get back to it  :P

Great Ideal. I did a piece where I hade to do a Tremolo Guitar. I used the Shape function on the Volume, but this would have saved me a lot of hassles.
Would like to see this reacticated.
